World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor is possible using the level of the item.
On PC, you are able to see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item with specific stats, or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another aspect that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. Similar to the base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It simply gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in early game runs than later ones because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..
The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by five percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
