World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips of items. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.
On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its level. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are item upgrader about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory says that the level of an item is calculated by a formula that calculates the value of the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real item level.
This isn't the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within the same range, unless it's a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, this will have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in the early game as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each item level. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Furthermore, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
